It is the responsibility of the St. Clair County State's Attorney to:

Provide counsel to the Grand Jury and to commence and prosecute all investigations before the Grand Jury;

Commence and prosecute all matters pursuant to the Juvenile Court Act of Illinois, including actions to adjudicate minors to be wards of the Court as a result of abuse, neglect or deliquesce and, further, to advise the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services concerning their duties and functions as the occur in St. Clair County;

Proceed on behalf of private persons and the Illinois Department of Public Aid in causes to assure the support of minor children in St. Clair County, or elsewhere by reciprocal action with other states;

Prosecute all actions pursuant to the laws and statutes of Illinois which provide for the involuntary commitment of mentally ill persons to the Illinois Department of Mental Health.

News Forty Year Sentence Imposed for Home Invasion Conviction St. Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan F. Kelly announced today that Cortez D. Richardson (d.o.b. 12/14/1980) of Cahokia, Illinois, has been sentenced to forty years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for a Home Invasion that occurred on Market Avenue in East St. Louis, Illinois on June 23, 2009. Guilty Verdicts Returned in Sexual Assault Case A St. Clair County jury found Christopher J. Willis (D.O.B. 06/08/1993) of East St. Louis, Illinois, guilty of two counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault and one count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse. The jury acquitted Willis on one count of Armed Robbery. The jury deliberated for approximately seven hours before returning their verdicts. Convicter Murderer Found Guilty St. Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan F. Kelly announced today that a St. Clair County jury found Anthony R. Drakes (d.o.b. 11/29/1958) of Swansea, Illinois, guilty of the offenses of Aggravated Battery and Domestic Battery – Subsequent Offense. Drakes had been accused of punching his girlfriend in the face and striking her in the leg with a baseball bat. The jury deliberated less than an hour before returning a verdict of guilty. States Attorney Issues Charges Against Man for Striking Pedestrians on Poplar Street Bridge St. Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan F. Kelly today charged twenty-six year old Brandon Garcia (d.o.b. 08/09/1985) of Florissant, Missouri, with four counts of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. Charges Issued in Washington Park Gas Station Shooting St. Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan F. Kelly announced today that his office has issued charges in connection with the September 17, 2011 shooting of a patron on the parking lot of the Crown Mobil Market located at 1441 Kingshighway, in Washington Park, Illinois. Press Conference On September 22, 2011, at 10:00 a.m., St. Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan F. Kelly will address the media regarding a county wide public integrity operation. Jury Convicts Wife of Killing Her Handicapped Husband On Tuesday afternoon, a St. Clair County jury found Josephine G. Lockett (d.o.b. 12/15/1962) guilty of the Involuntary Manslaughter of her seventy-two year old husband, Louis Lockett. Additional Charges Filed Against former Boy Scout Leader St. Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan F. Kelly announced today that fifty-three year old Jon Demers (d.o.b. 07/02/1957) of Collinsville, Illinois has been charged in two separate files with eight additional counts of crimes alleging sexual misconduct with minors. Wood River Man Receives 15 Year Sentence for the Manufacturing of Methamphetamine On August 9, 2011, Clifford J. Cook (d.o.b. 06/26/1982) of Wood River, Illinois pleaded guilty to one count of Aggravated Participation in Methamphetamine Manufacturing and was sentenced to fifteen years in the Illinois Department of Corrections by the Honorable Judge Michael Cook. The defendant will be required to serve seventy-five percent of this sentence. Police Officer Charged With Aggrivated Battery St. Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan F. Kelly today charged forty-four year old David L. Lauer, II (d.o.b. 05/26/1967) of Troy, Illinois with one count of Aggravated Battery and one count of Domestic Battery. East St. Louis man Charged With Felony Domestic Battery St. Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan F. Kelly announced today that thirty-seven year old Larry L. Johnson (d.o.b. 08/08/1973) of East St. Louis, Illinois has been charged with one count of Domestic Battery-Subsequent Offense, one count of Obstructing Justice, and one count of Criminal Trespass to State Supported Land. East St. Louis Man Found Guilty in Nightclub Shooting A St. Clair County jury convicted Dorian Brown (1/24/1974), of East St. Louis, of three counts of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm for his involvement in a shooting on July 19, 2008, at Club Phoenix, an East St. Louis nightclub. Following his conviction by a St. Clair County jury, Brown faces a minimum of eighteen years imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections Kelly Continues Targeted Effort to Clean Up Parkfield Terrace St. Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan F. Kelly announced today the continuation of a multi-phase joint law enforcement effort to clean up and combat crime in Parkfield Terrace, an unincorporated St. Clair County neighborhood near Cahokia. Malone Charged With Hate Crime St. Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan F. Kelly issued a two count criminal information today charging fifty-one year old Kevin T. Malone (d.o.b. 03/14/1960) of Freeburg, Illinois with Hate Crime. Three Indicted in Hate Crime St. Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan F. Kelly announced today that the Grand Jury of St. Clair County has indicted three individuals with the offense of Hate Crime. Cahokia Man Pleads Guilty In Teenager's Death Twenty year old Craig Nichols, Jr. (d.o.b. 12/20/1990) of Cahokia, Illinois plead guilty today to one count of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm for his involvement in the death of 19 year old Blake Munie of Cahokia, Illinois.
